Pillow Guide Pillow Guide

Chart of pillow typesOn your back or on a bed overloaded with pillows, we all want a good night's sleep and a great pillow's a big part of that. Which way to turn though? Let me fill you in, with Queen Anne's down, feathers, or down alternative fills.

First!  All of our pillows are made in America, at a fair wage factory where we can maintain high quality standards.  All of our pillows ship in a storage or travel bag - I call it a storage bag, you might call it a travel bag - and every pillow ships with a wool dryer ball.  Whew!  And all of our pillows have our signature shape-extending piped edges.  We use luxurious 300 thread count shells and everything's double stitched.

What's in the pillow?

Down.  What is down?  Here's the long explanation.  But the short story is that down isn't really a feather, but instead a small, fluffy cluster, from a goose or duck, without a quill.  It's super soft, and it's a natural insulator.  Think about those down parkas and what's that like.  Our down is ethically sourced and imported from Europe.  Our Original Queen Anne pillow is a 100% down pillow, and it's our most luxurious pillow.  We recommend our down pillows be dry cleaned only.

Feathers.  Want a premium pillow, but need something with more loft - or pillow height - than down?  Then add feathers.  Our Princess pillow is 50% down + 50% feathers, and our Duchess pillow is 25% down + 75% feathers.  The Princess will have more loft than the Original Queen Anne.  That means it won't be quite so soft, and the Duchess will have more loft than both the Original Queen Anne and the Princess.  As with the Original Queen Anne, the Princess and Duchess are best kept dry clean only too.

Down alternative, or synthetic down.  It's a polyester or microfiber cluster created to perform like natural down.  It's hypoallergenic, machine washable, and cheaper than natural down and feathers.  Our down alternative is meant to act like natural down, and our Majesty Down pillows are our best sellers.

Soft, Medium, or Firm

It's the amount of fill - regardless of if that's down, feathers, or down alternative - that goes into a pillow that makes it soft, medium, or firm, and how you sleep that dictates what you want.  Think about your spine, and keeping your neck in alignment when you lay down.

A stomach sleeper is best served by a soft pillow.

A side sleeper generally will sleep best on a medium pillow.

And a back sleeper goes best with a firm pillow.
