Can I Wash My Down and Feather Pillow?

Can I Wash My Down and Feather Pillow?

A down pillow is filled with soft, fluffy feathers from ducks or geese. It's an excellent choice for many sleepers because it's an excellent insulator and provides good support for your head and neck. But, down pillows are more expensive than other types of pillows and require special care to maintain their shape and fluffiness.

Who Benefits the Most From a Down Pillow?

Down pillows are ideal for people who need a soft, supportive pillow that will conform to their head and neck.

Side sleepers need a down pillow that is firmer than average in order to provide adequate support for the head and neck. Stomach sleepers need a down pillow that is softer than average in order to prevent the head from being pushed too far forward. Back sleepers can usually get away with using any type of down pillow, as long as it isn't too soft or too firm.

Can You Wash Your Down Pillow?

If you've ever had a down or feather pillow, you know how comfortable and cozy they can be. But you may also know that they can be tricky to care for. One of the most common questions we get about down and feather pillows is, "Can I machine wash them?"

The answer is complicated. Down and feathers are natural materials, and as such, they are delicate. Machine washing can damage the delicate feathers, causing them to break and lose their insulating properties. Additionally, machine washing can cause the down to clump up and lose its ability to loft or fluff up. This means that your once-fluffy pillow will be flat and uncomfortable.

So what's the best way to clean a down or feather pillow? Dry clean, and if not, spot clean by hand, using a mild soap and cool water. For more stubborn stains, you can use a vinegar and water solution. Just be sure to rinse the pillow thoroughly afterward to remove any residue.
